The Knightly News – Council 11091
From the Grand Knight’s Desk
My Worthy Brother Knights!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of my brothers and your families. I hope that everyone had an enjoyable New Year and holiday season. With the weather we have had, until recently anyway, it hardly seemed like winter!
December Recap
As usual, December was quite a month in the council. We ordered more trees for the tree lot than ever before! Due to the mild weather, they seemed to be going quickly and we ended up shutting down the lot due to a near sell-out. Big thanks go out to co-chairs Rene Mendez and Jason Roggenbuck and all of the other volunteers who manned the lot, sold trees, and shared fellowship. Also to the crews who built and packaged nativity sets.
The Knights Family Christmas Party was a great success. By all accounts it was probably the biggest turnout we have had. Instead of catering the food, the main courses, turkey, ham, fish fillets, and pasta were cooked onsite. The time commitment to do this was tremendous. Kudos to Ken, Chris and all the other brothers who helped with the preparation of this meal and the party. As usual, Breakfast with Santa followed up the next morning. Maybe it was the late night before, but Chris could really have used some additional help with this event. Let’s see if we can improve on this for the next breakfast, which will be March 13th.
December is the month when we have our membership drive. The Kevins (Wright and Fitzgerald) as well as Greg Dobek gave pulpit speeches at all of the masses on December 12th/13th. They must have been good speeches because at our Knight Before Christmas 1st Degree ceremony on the 17th, we welcomed 9 new members into our council as well as 8 from other councils. Thanks to all who recruited a new member and of course to the degree team for their dedication to this ceremony. If you haven’t been to a 1st degree lately, please try to do so. It’s true that you pick things up that you didn’t before, or that maybe you had forgotten.
Coming Up in January
In January we will have a weekend to take down and pack away the community sets and the Christmas lights on the exterior of the church and friary. This doesn’t happen until after the Epiphany which is January 6th.
We will also be focusing on our new members in January. We have a new member social scheduled for January 16th. New members will be receiving info from our membership director, Kevin Wright. This will be an opportunity to come meet some brother Knights, learn about our council, and most importantly give you the opportunity to let us know your interests so you can get involved in this great organization. We also want to make sure that our mentor program gets into full swing to serve these new Knights. If any of you brother Knights are interested in mentoring, please talk to Dan Limbach.
There is also a blood drive scheduled for January 10th. Our numbers have dropped the last few drives. Let’s see if we can get back near the 100 unit range. Please help get the word out and invite friends and family to donate.
Thank you all for the work you do for our council, our parish, and our community. I look forward to seeing everyone at the next meeting, Thursday January 7th at 7:30pm.
Vivat Jesus!
Dan Perna, Grand Knight
