Worthy Brother Knights!
This week is the start of Advent, the beginning of the new liturgical year for the church and a time of expectation and preparation – preparation of our homes and hearts to celebrate the birth of Jesus. As Knights, we can take an active role in sharing the richness of our Catholic faith during Advent and Christmas. Let our acts of charity and good works exemplify the hope, joy, and love that this season brings. Remember that “Keep Christ in Christmas” is more than just a slogan. We must strive to demonstrate this ideal through our daily lives and actions.
November Recap
The Christmas Tree Lot setup went well on November 21st, unfortunately the trees didn’t make it to our lot until Sunday evening. But in a great show of Unity and Fraternity, approximately 40 knights and family, as well as Fr Andrzej came to unload 400 trees in under an hour! No experience is necessary On the 22nd we held a mass to honor our departed brothers and came together with our families for a meal afterwards. Thanks go to Chris Hubbuch, our Chancellor for organizing this event.
Of course on Thanksgiving we held our third annual “Adopt-A Sailor” where we picked up 30 recruits from Naval Station Great Lakes. We were able to thank them for their service by providing a home cooked meal and spending time with them. They haven’t seen their families for about six weeks. Hopefully they had a relaxing and enjoyable day. Thanks to Ray Mueller for organizing this event, the many volunteers throughout the day, the Algonquin Fire and Police departments, several area restaurants for partnering on some of the sides and desserts, and Barrington Transportation for donating the use of a bus to pick up and return the recruits. We also set up the community nativities and put up lights on the exteriors of the church and friary.
Coming Up in December
Be sure to save the date for December 12th for the Knights Family Christmas Party and December 13th for Breakfast with Santa. Invite people you know who are not Knights to join us for breakfast. The chairmen of these events could still use some help in planning and putting on these events.
December is also an opportunity to bring in new Brother Knights, in our annual Become a Knight Before Christmas First Degree ceremony on December 17th. Due to a scheduling conflict in McDonnell Hall, the ceremony as well as the officers meeting will be held in the school cafeteria. Bring your First Degree candidates to the teachers’ lounge at 7:00. During masses on the 12th and 13th, we will be giving a pulpit talk about the Knights and have an information table in the lobby. Please wear a council shirt to mass that weekend and spend a few minutes after mass to talk to prospective new brothers.
