The council is finishing an eventful August and is preparing for a busy September. Thanks to all the volunteers that made our
events a big success. The Hammer Open ended up being a huge success after a slow start to sign ups. Thanks to Kevin Fitzgerald
for pushing this event over the finish line. The Hammer raised over $12,000 for several charites: Foundation Fighting
Blindness, Rett Syndrome, Team Talia Pediatric Cancer Foundation, and Veteran’s Path to Hope. Vic Garcia chaired a successful
‘Back to School BBQ’ event at Saint Margaret Mary School.
Lots of help is needed on Wednesday nights to build Nativity Sets. Please consider volunteering at 7:00pm Wednesdays at
the McGivney building
The Council is providing concessions at the Move United USA Wheelchair Football League event in Rosemont Aug 24 – 25.
This is a new event for the Council this year. Thanks to Ken Prigge and Tom McCabe for spearheading the event.
There is lots going on in September. The Tootsie Roll Drive is September 13 – 15. The Council will again be providing concessions
at Octoberfest September 14 – 15 at Saint Margaret Mary School. Please come help out that weekend, as many volunteers
are needed.
The Council is starting a new event this year: “The Novena for Life.” The Novena will coincide with the ’40 Days for Life.”
The first day of the Novena will be September 25 and will go for nine days. Please watch the bulletin for more information.
Brother Knights Rick Orabutt and Roman Budek will be ordained as Deacons in Rockford on September 28 and will participate
in their first official masses at SMM on September 29. Congratulations to Rick and Roman.
The Council’s Fall Retreat is October 3 – October 7 in Long Lake Wisconsin. More attendees are needed for the retreat.
