My Worthy Brother Knights!
Please come to our next council meeting this Thursday at 7:30pm at the Ministry Center. Whether you are a new Knight or one of the elders, we love to see you at the meetings. It’s one of the best ways to learn what’s going on in the council. If you want to be more involved, this meeting is your best opportunity to make it happen.
The Altar Server Appreciation pool party was a big hit. The weather held out, and we had a great turnout. The cannonball contest was particularly fun, as always. Thanks go out to John Wolak and Rene Mendez for Co-Chairing the event. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Hammer Open golf outing. The weather was fantastic. Everyone had a great time, and a lot of money was raised for some very important causes. Big thanks to Mary and Juergen Huellen, who chaired the event, and all the tireless volunteers. Juergen and Mary are stepping down from running the event, so if you are interested in becoming the new Chairman, let an officer know.
Summerfest went very well. It was warm and sunny. The food was outstanding. The music was enjoyable, covering a wide range of styles. Volunteer turnout was very strong at the Knights tent. All profits go to the parish. Thanks go out to Sal Bongiovanni for chairing the event.
September is a busy time for all of us. Vacation time is over. School is in full swing. The leaves are starting to turn and soon our region will be painted in the many shades of autumn. It’s time to start “Gathering nuts” to sustain us through the winter (hopefully not another Polar Vortex). This may include winterizing the pool, storing the boat or camper, pruning trees and cleaning up branches and leaves in the yard, and many other tasks that go with the conclusion of another summer. We still have many amazing weekends for grilling on the deck or patio with family and friends. We should all be grateful for the many gifts we have.
Many activities are scheduled for September. The ID Drive (Tootsie Rolls) is a major fundraiser for helping people with Intellectual Disabilities. Please consider signing up for a shift near your home. It is a very nice family activity, and it certainly doesn’t hurt donations when your children are holding the can and asking people to donate to the cause. 9/19 – 9/21.
The Nativity Construction crew has already started their work. You can help sort and package the sets on Tuesday nights at the McGivney Building. And we have an opportunity to show what we’re made of in the inaugural Knights and Firemen charity softball game. If you don’t wish to play, come on out and cheer on the players at 3pm on Sunday, 9/21. Also on 9/21 , we will need to up our game at the next blood drive. Every pint of blood saves lives. If it’s hard to make a blood drive every other month, do what I do and give a double red blood cell donation. You only have to do this 3 times a year, and each donation counts the same as 2 pints of whole blood.
Don’t forget to get your Vocations Support raffle tickets to Gene Gonzalez. You could win $10,000, as one of our members did a few years ago. We have reached a settlement on the Nativity magnet design issue. The terms of the settlement will be shared at this Thursday’s council meeting, and executed shortly thereafter. I am very happy this is behind us and we can continue to grow our program and raise money for our many worthy causes. This process was time-consuming, and at times gut wrenching. The resolution we reached would not have been possible without the efforts of our own Mark Ostrowski and Jerry Ahler, as well as Jason Brewer and Richard Assmus of the law firm Mayer Brown.

Finally, please say a prayer for the families of Brother Paul O’Rourke, and Maria Jones (wife of Brother Tom Jones), who passed away in August.
