The Knightly News – Council 11091
From the Grand Knight’s Desk
“Humility is not thinking less of oneself…. It is thinking of oneself less.”
As heard from Homily at Michigan State University John Newman Center Mass.
Greetings Worthy Knights and families,
September proved to be a productive and challenging month in many ways. First the challenges…We had to cancel our much anticipated Softball Tournament due to inclement weather. The tournament is rescheduled for this weekend and you will see an email with all particulars today or tomorrow. We lost a beloved brother… Sir Knight Bill Burg. Bill had been having some heart issues for a while now and passed away at home last week. Bill was a Knight since 2008. Many of you worked with him on Adopt a Highway. He also initiated Sports Mania into our Council. Bill worked the Christmas Tree lot with us every season as well. Bill was a very good man and our Council will miss him. I have spoken to his Widow Kathy and assured her that she has 320 brothers now and to let us know if she needs anything. Many of you remember Paul Farmaghetti (I am sure I am screwing up spelling, I apologize.) We all called him Chef Paul. He was a Knight for quite a few years and while no longer on our rolls, I would mention that he helped at many events including pancake breakfasts, Fish Frys and he ran a Spaghetti Dinner for us. Paul passed last week and please keep him and his family in your prayers.
We had a nice turn out for our ID Drive. We manned numerous locations throughout Algonquin and raised lots for the drive. Thanks to John Frazier and all who participated.
The Men’s Fall Retreat has become more popular than ever with 27 Knights attending. The weather was great and all enjoyed fellowship, recreation, rest and religion. Many thanks to all who run this great event, especially Ken Prigge and Stu Kuczynski.
We started renovations on McDonnell Hall last week and the initial project of replacing ceiling is very near completion. We now have a beautiful new ceiling with a brand new stereo system. The stereo system sounds great and offers great acoustics for people speaking to large groups. We are also purchasing new projection screen. The next project which we will be working on this Saturday is removal of some kitchen cabinets and installation of new Kitchen sink. We will be discussing next phases of renovations at upcoming officer’s meeting and will present plan at November General Meeting next month.
Our Youth Ministry is having their annual Chili Cook Off next Sunday after 4:30 PM Mass. It is a delicious and fun way to spend some time with our youth. I will have entry forms available at General Meeting on Thursday if you wish to compete. There is no cost (just cost of the chili). It will take place at McDonnell Hall. You will need to submit Chili for judging just prior to 4:30 PM Mass in McDonnell Hall.
Our Clergy Appreciation Dinner is Friday October 14 at Saint Mary’s in Huntley. See Mark Halper at the general meeting if you wish to attend.
There is a poker tournament coming up on Friday October 21. See Dave Frendreiss, Mark Minaglia or Rene Mendez for details.
We will be having several guest speakers this Thursday including three of the charities we support with the Hammer Open. Please be prompt if possible.
I want to thank you all for all your efforts for our community, parish and council. I look forward to a productive October.
Vivat Jesus,
Scott
