Brother Knights!
Enough of this! We’ve been going through an unheard-of year. Coronavirus shut-downs, economic mudslides, rioting in our cities. In Chicago, it’s been the 2nd wettest Spring on record, and May was the wettest in 150 years. We’ve been unable to get together with family and friends, working at home in sweats and slippers. Unable to attend Mass, quarantined through Lent and Easter. Virtual Graduations. Many of our usual activities were suspended – no flags in cemeteries for veterans for Memorial Day, no sale of roses for Mothers Day. No Anniversary Dinner. Kamporee was canceled, and Founder’s Day. Blood drives have been postponed. What’s next?
As the Ghostbuster’s foretold –“Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies. Rivers and seas boiling. Forty years of darkness. Earthquakes, volcanoes! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together!” What are we going to do? Quit? “Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?” [Different movie]
We’re going to continue to support the Church and Community. We’ve continued to support our regular monthly charities over the past two months. We’re going to begin to raise some money again and bring the Knights and parish together with a tailgate party on June 20. We plan to go ahead with our Hammer Open Golf Extravaganza later this summer. The ID Tootsie
Roll Drive (we’re still looking for a chairman to step up) will go on. We’re planning to carry on with Oktoberfest. Got any other ideas? Bring em! And who led us here? Vote the Bum out! No, I’m talking about the other guy – the Grand Knight. And you did! We’ve got a new Grand Knight in Dave Frendreiss and a new set of officers beginning in July – things are looking up!
Sunday masses are going to be slowly opening to more parishioners. Blessed Father McGivney is being beatified. Our joined prayers and actions are going to result in real change in this world. And you, the Knights of Columbus, are going to be in the vanguard. Undaunted. As Bluto Blutarsky said “We’re just the guys to do it…LET’S DO IT!”
Vivat Jesus!
