KOFC – Council 11091 Newsletter
From the Grand Knight’s Desk:
Brothers:
With Holy Week just days away, let us focus on transitioning from 40 days of Lenten sacrifice to real, lasting changes in our hearts and lives. May our works of Charity help to guide us in this change.
Adopt-a-Highway had a great show of support at the March event. It was a good thing too, as the team collected 12 bags of litter. I think that is a new record for Adopt-a-Highway. Thanks to Steve and the crew for cleaning up our roadway.
We held two Fish Fries with new & improved options. New offerings included a premium entree of Mahi Mahi, and new all-you-can eat offerings of tilapia and catfish. It was also the debut of our new large fryer which was a big help to the kitchen staff in keeping up with the orders. There was a notable increase in nonparishioner attendance, and we even had a KC Past State Deputy travel from Lombard to check us out. I saw some new faces among the volunteers, and we got a couple of Form 100s to boot. Thanks to all the cooks, prep workers, servers, and the cleanup crew. Once again Patrick Ryan did a great job with his mopon-wheels at each of the events.
Breakfast with the Bunny came early this Easter season, and we are lucky that we got to see Peter Cottontail at all. Thanks to Marv and Deacon Bob for pursuing an option to join the Youth Group for a cosponsored event. We débuted our new Angel Lite Pancakes at the event and they were very well received. Marv did a great job with sponsorship, keeping expenses low and improving our bottom line. Thanks to everyone that helped, especially our own oversized bunny.
Our Culture of Life director had a very busy month, pushing active opposition to the proposed State abortion bills. His communications have directed our actions and facilitated the steps to take in order to make our voices heard in Springfield. Thank you, George, for your dedication to life and your efforts within our council.
Looking ahead in April, we have the Anniversary Dinner on the 6th, followed by a Blood Drive on the 7th. We have several 4th degree events in April. Details are listed later in the newsletter. Let’s show our support for these events.
At the end of the month, Rick Limbach and I will attend the State Convention. It will be interesting to see how the other councils are handling the same challenges that we face. I have submitted two of our events to the State Council for consideration in their Program of the Year Awards. I think that we have a good chance of being recognized once again for our programs and our approach to the works that we perform.
Finally, the Supreme Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, Archbishop William E. Lori of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, offers a monthly challenge to Knights worldwide. Here’s this month’s challenge: “This month I challenge you to be like the Prodigal Father by making the first move: take the first step toward another person in your life to encourage or forgive them. Secondly I challenge you to prayerfully write a list of things in your life for which you are grateful.”
Have a Blessed Easter.
Vivat Jesus!
