KOFC – Council 11091 Newsletter

Brothers:

Summer is finally here! We have much to be thankful for! Knights events were few in May, but one very important annual event was hosted by the Fourth Degree.

Several of our brothers honored members of the Armed Services by placing American flags on the grave sites of veterans at Holy Sepulchre/River Valley Memorial Gardens cemetery in West Dundee. This is a wonderful tribute to acknowledge love of country, and the sacrifices made by our service men and women. It is our intent that through commemorations such as this, their service will not be forgotten.

We also raised funds for the Culture of Life on Mother’s Day through the sale of roses after mass. Thanks to George and Helen Jost for running this event, and to Sal Corona for providing a source for the flowers. The roses were high quality items that sold themselves, thanks also to all those who helped man the table.

A new approach to our Wheelchair program was initiated last month. To promote the program and raise awareness within our parish, we handed out plastic bags to parishioners after each mass. Each bag had a tag to explain the Wheelchair program and gave instructions on how parishioners could help. Time will tell if this will result in greater numbers of aluminum cans, and hence wheelchairs, for the council.

Formation and Knighthood Degrees were held on the first Sunday in June. George Kurkowski, Neil Davis, and Bob Dubiel from our council moved on to their 2nd and 3rd degree. Congratulate these gentlemen when you see them.

There will be an Admission Degree on Thursday June 20th. This is also the date of Corpus Christi. Please reach out to someone in our parish with an invitation to come and join the Knights. New members bring ideas and enthusiasm, which help to keep a council’s spirits high.

The month of June is packed with family events. June is time for the annual KC State Kamporee, held in Lena, IL. For yours truly, this is more of a Glamping event, two nights in a cabin with air conditioning and a bathroom with a hot shower. But there are plenty of outdoor activities. The weekend is full of family events, including an outdoor mass, and the KOA campground in Lena is a wonderful site with enough diversions to keep the kids active all day. The campers are mainly Council 11091 families, so consider joining us if you have the weekend of June 7, 8, and 9 open.

Our next scheduled Blood Drive is Sunday June 9th. Donations always drop off in the summer months, but the need for blood never diminishes. Please consider starting your summer with this worthy cause.

The Officer installation and Family Picnic will be held on Saturday June 29th. Mark your calendar now! Additional communication will be sent later in the month, closer to the date.

Our fraternal year ends in June, and so it is time for nomination and election of the next slate of council officers. Please try to attend the June council meeting when we will vote on the proposed nominees. Happy Father’s Day to everyone. I pray that everyone has a pleasant summer, with safe travels, and plenty of family time.
