KOFC – Council 11091 Newsletter
From the Grand Knight’s Desk:
As a teenager, our church was unique. It was a large glass octagon with chairs instead of pews and the altar would be moved depending on the requirements of the season.
For Easter, the church was filled with flowers, bushes, rocks and even a flowing stream. At the Easter vigil, the doors would be opened and the inside of the church blended in with the outdoors. As the sun rose during the Mass it seemed to coincide with the Gospel and with Jesus rising from the dead.
Spring is a time of rebirth for the trees, flowers and for us. This is the perfect time to reflect on how we have performed as Catholics during the last three months and to prepare ourselves to proclaim that Jesus Has Risen.
March has been a crazy busy month for our council. We have had two fish frys and boy were they busy and successful. The March 9th event served 455 people, the old record was 379. Yes, we did run out of food and made multiple grocery runs to restock but everyone was well fed and enjoyed themselves. I may be biased but I do think we have the best fish fry in town. I would expect our final fish fry to also be extremely successful. Thank you to everyone who came out to prep, setup, cook, clean and eat. We had a great turnout of help and it is greatly appreciated.
On March 25th we will hold our annual Breakfast with the Easter Bunny. This is Dave Frendreiss’ swan song as chairman and I’m sure it will be his best yet. Please let me know if you would be interested in stepping up as the new chair. Don’t worry as you will receive a lot of help and direction.
Speaking of Dave, he also organized the Poker Tournament. Although not an official Knights event the proceeds go to a great charity. Ask Dave for more details on the next event or how you can help to support the charity.
April will keep us busy as well. We will have our Knights Easter Mass on Easter Sunday at 11:00am. Please plan to attend and wear a coat and tie and your Knights lapel pin.
Please contact Chris Burns for more details or to sign up to assist during the Mass. This is also our 25th anniversary as a council and we will celebrate at the Golf Club of Illinois on April 21st. Dan Kotleba has a lot of new and exciting additions to this year’s event. Please see Dan soon to buy your tickets.
Have a great spring and a joyous Easter!
