The Knightly News – Council 11091
From the Grand Knight’s Desk
My Worthy Brother Knights!
“Christ is Risen! Alleluia!
What an exciting way to end the month of April! First, we celebrated Easter Sunday and the Resurrection. As was stated by our Pastor, “Jesus is indeed risen in our hearts and in our lives. He overcame the darkness of death and sin and brought new hope, which is everlasting life. We celebrate Easter to be raised with Christ and seek what is above. The power of the Resurrection helps us to fill our hearts with deep hope, love, and faith. Only these, God’s virtues, can give us eternity.”
On April 27th, we celebrated the canonization of two Popes, St. John XXIII and St. John Paul II. For many of us this event had special meaning as we witnessed one or both of these men during our lives. Many could recall Saint John Paul II’s visit to Chicago in 1979. Saint John Paul holds special value in my family. In 1976, then Cardinal Karol Wojtyla visited my hometown of Stevens Point, WI. He toured the community and celebrated mass at the Fieldhouse for the public high school. (None of the area churches were large enough to contain the thousands that came for the Mass). My grandmother was part of the welcoming committee and we are honored to now have a photograph of her, “the saint of our family” with a real saint!
State Convention
On April 26th and 27th, Dan Limbach and I represented our council at the Illinois Knights of Columbus State Convention in Springfield. It is truly an honor to represent such an active and charitable council! The Illinois State Council provides five avenues for charitable activity. They are a Pro-Life fund, Vocations Support fund, Newman Center Fund, Intellectual Disabilities Fund (Tootsie Roll Drive), and a General Assistance Fund. Only 28 of 439 councils in the state of Illinois contributed to all five funds. We were one of those councils. You are truly an amazing group of men dedicated to the principle of charity.
In addition, our Brother Knight and District Deputy, SK Mark Halper, was recognized with an award for his service as a District Deputy over the past few years. I would like to thank Mark for his service to the councils in this district and best wishes as he pursues future responsibilities within our Order.
Anniversary Dinner
It’s the social event of the year! Council 11091 is celebrating 21 years on May 10th at the Golf Club of Illinois starting at 6:00pm. Join us for our annual evening of festivities, a sumptuous dinner, fellowship, year in review, awards, and much more. Get ready to laugh, cheer, dance, and maybe even karaoke. Bring your special sweetie and start the Mothers’ Day celebration early. You may contact our Deputy Grand Knight, SK Dan Limbach with any questions. (224-829-1914)
Thank you again for all your charitable efforts over the past month of April. May God continue to bless you, your families, and the St. Margaret Mary community this coming month!
Vivat Jesus!
Mark Ostrowski, Grand Knight
