Worthy Brothers,

I think about my years with the Knights, the years to come, and particularly this next year. I thank you for entrusting me with the care of this council for the next year. I follow a line of amazing leaders. Living up to their legacy sort of makes me nervous, but, since I know what our membership is capable of, I trust we’ll be able to continue to do the wonderful work, day in and day out, that makes this council great. I also know that the past Grand Knights will have my back and be able to provide me with the guidance to make good decisions for the council.

I need to take a moment to thank Dave Campbell. Dave took the reigns of the council in the midst of Covid and led us through the unknown twists and turns we encountered. Dave’s vision helped us to streamline meetings and engage membership. With Dave, we have made amazing charitable donations including thousands of dollars to support Ukrainian refugees via the Franciscans in Poland, as well as new doors for the church. Dave will be a tough act to follow.

As I step into the Grand Knight role, the theme for this year is passion. The world is opening up and as opportunities are presented, this council needs to renew that passion for service and capitalize on those opportunities. The passion of this council is what brings out the masses. It would be beautiful to see too many volunteers at every event. As leaders in our families, the passion of our membership to volunteer, perform and succeed should inspire our families to join us whenever possible. It’s good for our families and community.

Lastly, we need a passion for growth. The future of our council is predicated on future membership and leadership. Those future members and leaders are out there to be recruited.

Our current membership has a duty find those future members and leaders and ensure the long-term success of this council we love.

In my speech at the anniversary dinner, I said: “One of my favorite moments in Mass is right before communion: “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.” No truer words can be said about any of us, yet he comes to us every week, every day even, in many ways; especially through Communion.”

Service is a wonderful way that the Lord can enter under our roof and I hope that you all can join me in passionate service to our church, community and those less fortunate, and make this the best year yet for Knights of Columbus Council 11091.

Vivat Jesus.

As summer begins to set in, Mother nature has given us some crazy high temps, and some unusual low overnight temperatures! I hope everyone had a relaxing Memorial Day weekend; I know that everyone in this council knows the true meaning of the holiday. I know I enjoy the extra day off to recharge my batteries, grill out, and be thankful for all that I have. I am also thankful for all
that this council has done this year! I will not go through the list of everything that we did, because the newsletter would be 12 pages long! For those of you not involved in an activity, I encourage you to reach out to one of the officers, or the chairman of the event and ask what you can do to help. For those of you actively involved, I thank you for all your efforts that make this council the most successful council in the State of Illinois!

Vivat Jesus!
