The Knightly News – Council 11091

From the Outgoing Grand Knight’s Desk

My Worthy Brother Knights!

As I write my last newsletter article as Grand Knight, I first want to say what a pleasure it has been to serve in this position and to work with you. Congratulations to our brothers who have been installed as the officers for the 2016-2017 fraternal year, especially to Scott Nejman who will be an outstanding Grand Knight. He has already expressed his goals for improvements and growth within our council. Please continue to offer your assistance wherever it is needed as well as any new ideas. We had a nice officer installation ceremony on June 24th – thanks to all of you who came to observe. I want to thank Dave Frendreiss, Rene Mendez, Bob Armstrong, Michael Kouvelis and everyone else who helped with the family picnic. (I found one last burger when I used a grill last weekend!) Over the last weekend in June, we celebrated my daughter Jennifer and Alex’s (a brother Knight!) wedding and witnessed the love and happiness that they share with each other and with their families and friends. It was truly a “community” event with so many participating in the preparations, the rehearsal, the mass and wedding ceremony, and of course the parties afterwards. People traveled from far (both coasts) and near and many made new friends that they never would have met otherwise. I have lived in Algonquin/LITH for 32 years and this is the first wedding I have been to at St Margaret Mary. Thank-you to Father Peter for a beautiful ceremony.

I want to thank all who helped with the gym project at the school. It started with a big painting job, headed up by Ken of course, but turned into many hours of labor to prepare the floor for the new surface. There were some surprises under the old surface that took many more hours than was planned. Thanks to all who helped with this back-breaking work.

May God bless you and your families.

Vivat Jesus!

Worthy Brother Knights!

“A new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book waiting to be written.”M. Beattie.

Our history is amazing and our accomplishments speak volume to the character of the wonderful, generous and extremely capable men and their families who have preceded us in this chair and this Council.
I am honored and humbled that you have placed your trust in me and our current slate of Officers. We have much work to do this year and I hope to write a beautiful chapter for this Council with you all.

June was an exceptional month with Ken Prigge and many other Knights painting our School Gymnasium. Thanks to all who volunteered. The Family Picnic was well attended and also very well run by Rene Mendez and his team of many volunteers. The Renewal of Vows was beautiful and so well received that we hope to expand it next year. SK Warren and Regina Colter did an awesome job. Finally the State Kamp-o-Ree was well attended and very well run by SK Tom Lambert. He and Julia did an exceptional job and I am very proud of all the enhancements our Council has added to this event.

Our Council needs several Knights and their families help in running our Adopt a Sailor this year. This is possibly one of the most rewarding events we have (at least for my family…) I hope that you will consider helping us out.

I would like to say thank you to Grand Knight Dan Perna for all his help and guidance and to many other PGK’s who help me in so many ways. I hope I can lead at half as well as all you did. I look forward to seeing you all Thursday July 7th.

Vivat Jesus!
