The Knightly News – Council 11091
From the Grand Knight’s Desk:
The perfect time to start something never arrives…… I cannot fathom that it is June already and my time as your leader is rapidly coming to a close. It has been a year filled with many activities, wonderful causes and great fellowship for our Council and our families. It has also been a year of loss and sadness. One of the things that makes this Council so special is that we always help our brothers and families in need. This month, our Officer installation will be taking place in Lena, Illinois at the State Kamporee on Saturday June 10th 11ish… Dependent on when we finish our Living Rosary. It is a long ride in the country but well worth the trip. Not only can you support your new officers, you can get a glimpse into what makes the State Kamporee so special. We will be serving a picnic lunch. After lunch, we will have Mass under the tent. It is a great experience. Give it a shot you will not regret it. Lena KOA Campground is located on Illinois route 20 approximately 15 miles west of Freeport. In the upcoming fraternal year which begins July 1, 2017 we will be celebrating our 25th Anniversary. We also will be lead by a very dynamic and highly motivated leader, SK Chris Hubbuch. He has a wealth of experience and knowledge and I encourage you all to work with him towards making 2017 our Council’s best year ever. I know that with your support, Chris can lead us towards our goals. I want to thank each and every one of you for your efforts and support this past Fraternal year. It has been a privilege and an honor to serve as Grand Knight of this great Council.

Five years ago when l joined the Knights l would never have believed l would be the Grand Knight of this great council. I have huge shoes to fill as I look back on the previous 23 Grand Knights. I also think of my father who was a Grand Knight almost 60 years ago. The good news is with all of that experience I have many Brothers that I can look to for guidance and help. As I look back on the last year I am so impressed and proud of the many accomplishments of this council. I know that the year ahead will bring even more success for our council as our membership grows and our events even more successful. This past month has been tough as we have lost loved ones. As I reflect on this it reminds me how quickly our lives can change. So take this time to reach out to your loved ones. Hug those closest to you, pick up the phone to those far away and say I love you while you can. As tough as the loss of our Angel Talia was, it was encouraging to see the council come together to support Greg and his family in their time of need. That is truly what makes this such a wonderful organization. Over the last few years we have grown our council by dozens of new Knights. To you newer Knights I ask if you have gotten involved and engaged with the council? Have you found an activity to participate in or joined a committee? You are the lifeblood of the council and we need your ideas and involvement. Please make it a goal this year to get more involved. We have openings for committee chairs and event chairs. Reach out and take on a new role, because the more you put into the council the more we can all accomplish. We are a family of brothers united in our faith and acts of charity. Are there people you know who would benefit from being part of our family? Take a moment and make a list of who you think would be a good Knight and invite them to join. Be the one who reaches out and gains us all a new brother. Recruiting falls on all of us so let’s all do our part to grow our family.
Vivat Jesus
